Formal definiton of the rate constant?

Formal definiton of the rate constant?
What does the rate constant entail conceptually? Would we be asked what the difference in reactions is with different rate constants besides the difference of the exponents?

But I think if we think back to 14a when we did equilibrium, the rate constant is determined by placing products over reactants. Thus, it is an indicator of the ratio of products to reactants at a certain time during a reaction (Q if not at equilibrium, K if yes). So a large k means the products/forward reaction are favored and a small k means the reverse is true.

its a constant that relates the reaction rate and the concentration of reactants.
