7A.17 and powers of 10

Postby Abby L 2E » Sat Mar 16, 2024 10:38 pm

I got the calculations right, but I was off by significant powers of ten. For context, this is a fifth-order reaction, and I first calculated the rate constant and then the initial rate of the 5th experiment. The textbook says the answers are my numbers EXCEPT the rate constant is times 10^-12 and the initial rate is times 10^-3.

First I thought it was a unit thing, but they use the same units, mmol???? That seems weird to me, why would they put the powers of 10 if they still kept mmol there as the units rather than just mol, which would make sense then? Is it a typo?

Your answer is probably correct! The answer key is written in mols, they just converted the mmol to mol. If you were to convert their answer to mmol, it would give you a different exponent.
