### 15.55 a

(a) For a reaction with a very large equilibrium constant, the rate constant of
the forward reaction is much larger than the rate constant of the reverse reaction. Why?

A large equilibrium constant means that the products are favored.

K>1 means that products are favored, K<1 means the reactants are favored. Rate constant and equilibrium constant are proportional so when the equilibrium constant is large, rate constant of forward reaction is also large.

As said before, the rate constant is always proportional to K. Therefore, when K is very large, meaning the products are favored, you will have a large rate constant.
