Initial Rate and Concentrations

Postby Sophie Krylova 2J » Wed Mar 07, 2018 11:09 am

Why are the initial rates proportional to concentrations and is it true always?

The change in concentration is proportional to the rate because the rate is dependent upon the concentration. This is why we can use the proportionality to figure out the order.

In addition, the reason why we use reactants is so that the reverse reaction from products to reactants does not interfere with the rate.
