Pre equilibrium approach

In lecture today I am confused as to how dr lavelle did the substitution

How did we sub [N2O2] with [NO]^2 ?

We can substitute the [N2O2] with [NO]^2 because we can use the equilibrium concept that K = [N2O2]/[NO]^2 because the second step in the reaction is slow and creates a bottleneck. So you just have to solve for [N2O2], which is K[NO]^2.

The reason for this substitution was because we needed to derive the rate law to match the observed rate law while also knowing that [N2O2] was a dimer and not included in the overall reaction
