Question 15.9 Comparing Experiments

For Question 15.9,
I understand how to find the order of A you compare the experiments where the values are the same for [B] and [C] but different for [A] but I don’t get when you are trying to find the order of [B] how to correctly decide which experiments to compare? The book compared experiments 2 and 3 which gives:3.02^b/1.25= 50.8/17.4 I’m trying to do the math and this gives 2.416^b=2.9195 which seems like it would be 1 but the actual order is 2.... what is the component to solving this that I am missing and determining which experiments to compare?

The more I look at it I think they are actually comparing experiments 1 and 3 which would then make perfect sense. If anyone can confirm this?

Generally when solving these types of problems, I try to compare two experiments where only one variable is changing. For example, when trying to figure out the order with respect to reactant B, I would compare two experiments with the concentrations of A and C held constant. Therefore, you can easily determine what effect changing the concentration of B has on the overall rate of the reaction.

yes, they are comparing experiments 1 and 3 if the problem you are talking about also corresponds to problem #15.17 in the 6th edition book.
