How do you use the method of initial rates to determine n and k?

You compare the ratio of the rate 1 and rate 2, versus the concentrations of the reactants in reaction 1 and reaction 2. Each reactant should be to an exponential power, so comparing the ratios of the rates and concentrations should allow you to isolate the exponent and determine the value of the n. to find K, you must solve for the exponents, then just plug in the given information, which should be everything except for K, then solve for k.

It's important to only change the concentration of one reactant at a time in order to isolate that reactant's relationship with the rate.

This above method can also be used to determine the order of the reaction. The order of the reaction can be calculated by adding together the exponents of the reactants (n, m...).
