We focus more on [R] than [P] because it is easier to observe the initial rates of the reaction when t is very close to t=0. There are more reactants present than products at the beginning of the reaction so it is easier to measure the initial reaction rate if we examine [R].

Initially at t=0 (before the reaction even starts) there aren't any products at all, therefore initial reaction rates only depend on reactant concentration.

^^what they said, and I also think Lavelle mentioned that the rate of products formed is the same as the rate for reactants but with the opposite sign. Can someone confirm that I am remembering correctly?
