Zero order and enzymes
So I remember in lecture that Dr. Lavelle explained how enzymes can be applied back to zero order but I'm still confused on how they relate to each other?
Re: Zero order and enzymes
Zero order means the reactant is not consumed in the reaction, yet it is still involved. It lowers the activation energy of the reaction. Enzymes/other catalysts do this as they are able to speed up the reaction by lowering activation energy denoted by Ea.
Re: Zero order and enzymes
I also think it has something to do with the fact that zero order reactions are independent of the concentration of the reacting substances. With enzymes and catalysts, the concentration of the reactants does not mean anything. The enzymes lower the activation energy in order to speed up the reaction, but its activity is not affected by the concentration of the reactants.
