External Factors

Postby laurence14b2f » Sun Mar 17, 2024 11:17 pm

Hey folks! How do external factors like temperature or catalysts influence the rate of a zero-order reaction? Thanks

Hi, increasing the temperature of a system would increase the rate of a reaction. At a higher temperature, the molecules would be colliding at higher frequency with greater force, thus increasing the rate of the reaction.

No matter which order the reaction is, an increase in temperature or the introduction of a catalyst will affect a the rate of a reaction. If the reaction is endothermic, an increase in temperature will increase the rate of reaction. If the reaction is exothermic, an increase in temperature will decrease the rate of reaction. The introduction of a catalyst (if it is correctly determined and at the appropriate temperature) should always increase the rate of the reaction.
