## writing rate

$\frac{d[R]}{dt}=-k; [R]=-kt + [R]_{0}; t_{\frac{1}{2}}=\frac{[R]_{0}}{2k}$

does it matter whether we write "rate" or d(A)/d(t) ?

It does not matter. And also, if A is a reactant, you would put a negative sign in front of the d[A]/d[t] because the reactant is being used up.
