I agree with what they said, for example if you have an equation A + B -> C and A is first order and B is second order, the overall order would be 3.

Finding the overall order of the reaction is simple once you determine the individual orders! You can simply sum up the individual orders. For example, if you have a 1st order and 2nd order reaction, the overall would be 3 because 1+2=3.

You determine the overall order of a reaction by adding together the orders of each of the reactants in the rate law.
For example, let's say we are given an initial rates table, and from it, we determine that reactant B is first order and reactant A is second order (and these are our only 2 reactants). Therefore, we know that the rate law is rate = k [A]^2 [B]
Adding up the orders of both reactants, we get 2 + 1 = 3. The overall order of the reaction is 3 (the reaction is a 3rd-order reaction)

You can't tell from just looking at the rxn equation, so you have to take the sum of the order of the individual reactants and that will be the order of the products.

You would have to find the reaction order of each individual reactant usually by comparing the initial reaction rates under varying initial conditions. Then you can just add all the orders of the reactants to find the overall order of the reaction.

The overall order of a reaction is calculated by simply adding all of the orders for each individual reactant together.

The orders of individual reactants that are involved in the slowest step of the reaction summed up would equal the overall order of the reaction. We find the individual orders of each reactant through experimentation, where we manipulate each concentration to see if the initial rate changes, and from that data we solve for n, m, l, etc. Hope this helps!

rate=k[A]^m[B]^n...and so on, with "m" and "n" being the orders of the reactants A and B respectively
the overall order would be m+n

You can find the overall order by adding the orders of the reactants :) If your reaction involved Reactants A (zero-order), B, (1st order), and C (2nd order), your overall reaction would be 3rd order :)
