### Derivation

are we going to have to derive or integrate the 1st or 2nd order for test 3 or the final?

### Re: Derivation

I believe that Dr. Lavelle said that we will not have to derive equations/formulas in general for tests. However, knowing the derivation is helpful not only for a conceptual grasp of how the equation was arrived at from previous understandings but also in case the equation is not provided.

### Re: Derivation

He probably won't but there's always a small chance that he might incorporate it in a question.

### Re: Derivation

I don't think we will be asked to directly derive the equations. However, understanding the derivations may help with the conceptual questions on Test 3.

### Re: Derivation

It is possible that he asks for the derivations, but knowing how to utilize and understand the equations is much more important.

My TA said we won't have to do any derivations on the test, but knowing them does help increase understanding of the concepts

### Re: Derivation

My TA said that if he asks us to derive on the exam, then it would be simple equations that we have gone over many times.

### Re: Derivation

I will probably learn them regardless. I think knowing the derivations helps to better understand what the equations mean, where they came from, and overall helps keep the equations straight in my head.

### Re: Derivation

No. My TA stated that this won't be necessary. However, Dr. Lavelle has spoken on how it helps to know how to derive each formula, as it demonstrates a deeper understanding of the concepts.
