what is the answer to this? I found it online and I would like some explanation

The answer is (D), and you can find it by process of elimination.

(A) we know to be incorrect, and (B) is false because surface area is proportional to chemical reaction speed. (C) is incorrect because reactions between gases are not rapid in ALL cases (e.g. very very low temperature). (E) is incorrect because reaction speed is proportional to temperature.
