Textbook 7A.17 pt C and D

Postby Racquel Fox 2I » Mon Mar 08, 2021 10:35 am

7A.17) The following data were obtained for the reaction A + B + C → products:

c) Determine the value of the rate constant.
d) Use the data to predict the reaction rate for Experiment 5.

I think I'm doing the calculations for these parts right, but I'm getting very off units for my answers.
I got 2.85 L^4/mmol^4*s for c, but the answer says 2.85E12 L^4/mmol^4*s. And for d, I got 11.3 mmol/L*s, but the answer says its 1.13E-2 mmol/L*s.
I feel like I understand the math, I just don't know how to get to those correct units, so any guidance would be appreciated.

It seems like you're getting the right values, just off by factors of 10. I would check to make sure you converted mmol to mols! Hope that helps.

I always end up off by a power of 10 when doing these types of problems, to check I usually look at the powers by themselves and see that everything generally adds up given the prefixes and exponents in the rate law.

I also am not sure why the answer is off by factors of tens. Is it because the answer key is meant to have units of L^4 *mols^-4*s^-1 instead of L^4 *mmols^-4*s^-1 and mols*L^-1*s^-1 instead of mmols*L^-1^s^-1 because then I get the same numbers as the answer key.
