Work

Postby 706212653 » Wed Oct 25, 2023 10:24 am

What are the equations for work we need to know for the midterm? And what units does work have?

I'm under the impression that the only thing we'd need to know related to this is the work function which is the threshold energy. That'll be given to us, or you can rearrange the equation E= hv - (work function) to solve for it. It would be in Joules.

Hi,
Work is just the amount of energy required to remove an electron from a substance via the photoelectric effect.
The energy of a photon is determined by E=hv
So, work would be in terms of joules (J).

Hope this helps!
