Equations for photons and electrons

Postby Hayden Zhao 3C » Sat Oct 28, 2023 1:27 am

What equations only apply to photons? What equations should we use if the question asks about electrons or other elements?

These are the main equations that apply to light (and electromagnetic radiation in general). They relate energy, frequency, wavelength, and the speed of light. Image

For the purpose of this class, the main three equations that apply to electrons are the Schrodinger equation, the De Broglie Wavelength Equation, and the Heisenberg Uncertainty equation. The De Broglie Wavelength equation looks very similar to the equations used for photons. However, the De Broglie wavelength equation only applies to particles that have rest mass - make sure not to apply it to electromagnetic radiation.
