Question on Midterm

Postby 204929947 » Tue May 08, 2018 12:37 am

For the midterm, I remember Dr.Lavelle said something on Friday about using all the numbers for Plank's constant (or any constant)... for example, instead of using 6.626, we would use all the numbers, which are 6.62607004... would we have to use all the numbers instead of just the first three.. because i remember in class Dr.Lavelle used all of them?

Pretty sure we use whatever is given to us on the Constants and Equations sheet on the front. Thus, for Plank’s constant we’d use 6.62608 x 10^-34

Since we will be given a sheet with all the equations and constants on it, we'll just use the constant to as many sig figs as given :)

I would go with what is on the sheet. But at that point the numbers are on such a small scale where it won't really make a difference.

"Known" values don't have sig figs (or so I was taught), so any constant given to you isn't going to determine the sig figs in your work. The point of using the long version of the constant is to ensure accurate calculations.

I'm pretty sure as long as we convert to the significant figures and convert at the end, it should all be fine.
