I got tricked by the unit as well... There is one question on the textbook that requires you to convert Kev to Joule before calculation.

It is a unit of energy. 1keV = 1.602 * 10^-16 J. Normally an eV = 1.602 *n10^-19 J but since this is Kilo electron volt, the power to 10 is raised to -16.

I know the problem you're referring to. Its 1.B.5. You have to convert the 140.511keV to eV by multiplying it by 10^3, and then multiply the eV by 1.6022x10^-19J to find the J.

keV is the abbreviation for kiloelectron volts, a unit of energy equivalent to the kinetic energy gained by an electron falling through a potential of 1 volt.

keV is the abbreviation for kiloelectron volts, a unit of energy. This is equal to 1000 eV (electron volts). 1 eV is equal to 1.602*10^-19 J, which is also a constant we have seen before for energy.
