### Meaning of h

In the equation E=hv, what does h represent? I know it is the number 6.63x10^-34, but I'm confused with what the number represents.

h represents Plank's constant. So when you graph E vs the frequency of light, the slope of that line is Planck's constant.

h is just the symbol used to represent Planck's constant. I'm not too sure where the specific number comes from, but I doubt that's important for this course. It is just a constant that is particularly useful when calculating the energy of different frequencies of light and other things in quantum mechanics, such as uncertainty.

h symbolizes planck's constant. It is used in this sense to relate energy in one quantum or photon of electromagnetic radiation to its corresponding frequency.

H stands for the constant of proportionality of energy and frequency.

If we were to graph energy (y-axis) and frequency (x-axis) we would have a constant, positive slope. We can use y = mx to model this line meaning y = energy and x = frequency. So it's currently energy = m(frequency). The slope (m) is therefore Planck's constant 6.626 x 10^-34 leading to the final equation of E = hv.

The meaning of h is just the change of rate of energy because E=hv, and h is just the slope.
