energy emitted by H electrons

Postby Mallika Singh 1G » Sun Oct 20, 2019 10:58 pm

So we were given the E = -hR/n^2 formula which, if i'm not wrong, can be used to give us the energy emitted by a transitioning electron. Is this formula only for electrons in a Hydrogen atom?

Yes, I believe this can only be applied to hydrogen atoms just because multi-electron atoms are more complex in nature and require deeper-level analysis.

I believe Dr. Lavelle mentioned we would be going over multi-electron atoms in the next lecture.

Yes, this specific equation can only be used when calculating for Hydrogen atoms.

Yes, that equation is specific to a "one-electron" model, and this model is only possible with a hydrogen atom.

Adding on, this difference in energy of a transitioning hydrogen atom could be used to calculate the energy of the emitted photon by the release of energy in the excited hydrogen atom.
