7C.7: Rate laws

Postby nehashetty_2G » Sun Mar 08, 2020 10:16 pm

The answer key does not include rate laws for the reverse reaction; however, in the book it says every forward reaction has a reverse reaction associated with it. So, I am wondering when do we use/write down a reverse reaction rate and when do we not?

We would only use a reverse reaction rate if the book specified to do so, or if the chemical reaction is an equilibria chemical reaction. Remember that once the system is in equilibrium, the forward reaction rate equals the reverse reaction rate.

We are not being asked to find both the forward and reverse, we are only being asked to find the rate for the formation of NOBr, which is the forward reaction.
