Can someone explain question 15b on Endgame?
The lab finds that with these conditions, yield a pseudo rate constant k'. Show how k' is related to the real overall rate constant k.
I am a little confused what the significance of a pseudo rate constant is. I also just don't understand the solution given.

I think the k' is supposed to signify the combination of the first rate constant and the concentration of A

How did you get that from the problem? Is there a simple way of figuring that out?

Re: Endgame 15b
Oh i guess pseudo rate constant k' is just using the reactant concentration that the rate is dependent on. that would be [B].

Yeah I guess the pseudo rate constant allows us to focus on seeing how one specific reactant’s concentration affects rate. By making the concentration of A super high, it’s essentially not changing as the reaction proceeds, and thus we can include it in k’.
