What is a rate determining step? How would we know?

The rate determining step is slowest step in a reaction mechanism. It limits the overall rate because it is the slowest step, so the rate law for the overall reaction is determined using the rate determining step. For example, the slow step in this mechanism would be the rate determining step.

Hello! In order to perceive the rate determining step, it is actually the slowest step in a reaction mechanism. Considering that the slowest step in the mechanism is the overall rate, explains its limitation. Therefore the rate determining step is used to determine the rate law for the overall reaction.
