Catalysts and rate of reaction

Postby Gabriel Barcelona 2L » Sun Mar 17, 2024 10:48 pm

How does the addition of a catalyst affect the rate of the reaction and the activation energy?

The addition of a catalyst affects the reaction as it increases the rate of reaction in both forward and backward directions by providing an alternate pathway with lower activation energy

The addition of a catalyst increases the reaction rate for the forward and reverse reaction rates by lowering the activation energies for both directions of the reactions.

If a catalyst is added to a reaction, it speeds it up by creating a different, lower-activation-energy reaction pathway. As a result, reactant molecules can travel through the reaction more easily and quickly to generate products. It is an efficient way to speed up chemical reactions because the catalyst itself is not consumed in the reaction and can catalyze several reaction cycles.
