Achieve Question 17

A certain reaction has an enthalpy of ΔH = 59 kJ and an activation energy of Ea = 96 kJ.
What is the activation energy of the reverse reaction?

I was able to figure out that I had to 96 kJ - 59 kJ, so 37 kJ, but I still don't understand why that's the answer? Why is Ea of a reverse reaction the difference between the forward reaction's Ea and the ΔH?

Because the enthalpy is negative, the reaction is exothermic.
We know that the enthalpy is the change in energy between the initial state and the final state. Using the equation = Eforward - Ereverse, we solve for Ereverse to get this equation.

Ereverse = Eforward -

HI the activation energy of the reverse reaction is Ea(forward) - H because it accounts for the energy need to go back of the Ea hill.
