What exactly does it mean for molecules to be in the transition state?

Highest point in energy, where once this is breached a molecule goes from reactant to product.

When an element is in its transition state that means the molecules currently has a high energy state, they are transitioning from reactants to products. The opposite of this term would be a molecule its is elemental form. When a molecule is in its transition state that is important because at that point, the molecules has the highest energy point along the reaction path.

Molecules that are in the transition state mean to have reached an unstable, high-energy state. Molecules in transition state are dealing with the rearrangement of chemical bonds so they are possessing partial traits of the reactants and of the products. They also have a very high energy during the reaction. The transition state is the explanation for the peak in the energy profile of the reaction pathway, explaining the point of maximum energy.
