Michelis-Menten Mechanism?
Hello, I am confused as to what this mechanism/ equation is used for? Could someone explain this to me simply? Thank you
Re: Michelis-Menten Mechanism?
Hi,
I believe that this is a model that is used to describe changes in concentration of enzymes over time. It helps us to understand the interactions between enzyme and substrate, which is useful when trying to understand biological processes and their rates.
Hope this was helpful

Yes, it helps us understand the changes in concentration of the enzymes and substrates overtime. Specifically it points out the concept of saturation and how the during an enzyme-substrate reaction the rate switches "dependency" as the ratio of enzyme to substrate changes. When there is low substrate levels the reaction will just keep increasing with more substrate because there are free enzymes to catalyze reactions, however, if there is a lot of substrate comparatively, the enzymes will still only go the same speed and because they are all occupied you will need to add more enzyme in order to cause an increase in reaction rate.
