Rate determining step

Postby Abigail Urbina 1K » Thu Mar 15, 2018 10:20 pm

The book says "In some cases the original reaction with a slow rate-determining step may continue in parallel with the catalyzed reaction. However, the rate is determined by the faster path, which governs the overall rate of formation of products." I thought that the rate was determined by the slow elementary step, so I'm a little confused. Can someone please clarify what the book means?

I had this same question - maybe a typo?

I think it means the slow step.
