## K1 vs K2

### K1 vs K2

Why is it that we use K1 instead of K2 to substitute for [intermediate] in rxn mechanism problems like this?

I am unsure if this is what you meant by your question, but my TA had explained that we use K2 to represent the K(1)/K(-1), because K2 is like the variable representing the value of what K(1)/K(-1) day is. You can keep the K(1)/K(-1) there if you would like, but K2 is there to simplify your rate into a smaller expression I believe is what he said, so that it can match the original rate law given in the question.
