New Mechanisms

Postby Joonsoo Kim 4L » Fri Mar 15, 2019 11:18 am

When a catalyst is present and the reaction can follow a different mechanism with a lower activated complex, do all of the reactants follow this mechanism, or do some of them still follow the old mechanism (without the catalyst and with a higher activation energy)? In other words, when there are multiple reaction mechanisms that are plausible, does the reaction follow one and only one, or a combination of several?

I believe it is only a single new mechanism because we are dealing with mechanisms of the whole reactions, not individual subreactions.
