What is the difference between a homogeneous and heterogenous catalyst that has on the reaction?

A homogeneous catalyst is a catalyst of the same phase and a heterogeneous catalyst is a catalyst of a different phase.

To expand on the above, a homogeneous catalyst is a catalyst of the same phase as the reactants while a heterogeneous catalyst is one that is of a different phase than the reactants.
