Catalysts and intermediates

Postby Kai Johnson 3B » Sun Mar 17, 2024 11:16 pm

How come catalysts are still interpreted within a rate law while intermediates are not?

because catalysts have a notable effect on the rate of the reaction, they need to be included in the calculation for the rate constant

intermediates only are produced in one step and consumed in the next, while catalysts are consumed and then produced, leaving them in the final reaction, which makes them part of the rate law
