### Intermediates vs. Catalysts

From what I heard in lecture intermediates have to be produced in the reaction and then used up. Whereas, catalysts are needed for the reaction to get started and then are somehow regenerated later in the reaction?

Can someone verify that this is accurate for me? I don't want to go onto the next topic without making sure I have catalysis straight.

Yes you are correct. Intermediates are produced in the first reaction and then are reactants in the second reaction. However, catalysts are reactants in the first reaction and then products in the second reaction. They speed up the reaction, but are not consumed by the reaction.
