kprime and k1

Postby Emily Tam 1k » Sat Mar 16, 2019 3:38 am

When solving the pre-equilibrium method, we are told to write the fraction k1/k-1. instead of writing this, can we just write k, or do they mean different things?

K is your forward rate and k' is your reverse rate, so yes, there are differences among the two.

Yes, they are different. The forward reaction is k and the reverse is k’. The equilibrium constant, K, is calculated by k/k’, which also corresponds to [reactants]/[products].
