K and Catalyst

Postby McKenna_4A » Tue Mar 10, 2020 2:46 pm

will the presence of a catalyst effect the equilibrium constant, K?

No, catalysts will not affect the equilibrium constant since the catalyst affects the rates of both the forward and reverse reactions equally.

Hope that helps!

To add on to the previous post, the presence of a catalyst will also not affect equilibrium concentrations or enthalpy!

When add all the steps/reaction mechanisms the catalysts and intermediates cancel out, which means they do not affect the K of the reaction.
