Which graph to use

Postby Rosanna » Wed Mar 13, 2024 6:37 pm

In my chem 14BL class, all three of my graphs (time vs [A], time vs ln[A], time vs 1/[A]) were all linear so I was wondering if that is kinetically possible. I remember Dr. Lavelle emphasized that the linear graph would indicate the order but what happens when all three graphs are linear?

I'm not too sure, but I don't think that for a reaction, all three order graphs can be linear, because it doesn't make sense in terms of the equation. Each slope should be uniquely linear based on the values and concentrations, etc.

I think that the most linear graph will indicate the order of the reaction, look at the R^2 values.

Hi!
Yeah, so when a time vs [A] graph is linear it indicates that the reaction follows first-order kinetics.
