Relationship between temperature and Le Chatelier's principle

Postby Nancy Le - 1F » Wed Mar 14, 2018 10:16 pm

Can someone explain how raising the temperature of a reaction, which increases the rate constant of the forward reaction and ultimately the equilibrium constant, is supported by Le Chatelier's principle?

Le Chatelier's Principle states that when a change is imposed on a system, the equilibrium will shift to counteract the change. If temperature is increased, there is more energy available, and the reaction shifts in the direction of the endothermic reaction. If temperature is decreased, it is more energetically favorable for the reaction to shift in the direction of the exothermic reaction.
