How do you know which reaction is fast or slow?

Normally, the problem will tell you what the rate determining reaction is.

For this class, they will usually tell you in the question itself.

Free energy is the quantity of energy that a thermodynamic system can use to perform thermodynamic work, whereas activation energy of a chemical reaction is the energy barrier that needs to be surmounted in order to produce products from the reaction.
