Why are enzymes considered catalysts in biological reactions?

They help speed up reactions so that they run more efficiently. They're usually proteins.

Enzymes are considered catalysts because they lower the activation energy needed for the reactants or the substrates to be converted into products. If the activation barrier is lower, then the reaction can occur at a faster rate and the biological process can speed up. One note is that enzymes do not change the energy of the reactants or products.

Enzymes are considered catalyst because they speed up reactions. Enzymes help regulate chemical reactions. Enzymes also lower the activation energy by binding with a substrate which causes the enzyme to change shape and its orientation.
