Hi,
What are some real life applications for rate laws and kinetics in general?
Thanks!

Re: Real world applications for kinetics
Hi, My mother is a chemical process engineer, and back when I was taking AP Chemistry in High School, she told me they use rates a lot when designing certain chemicals or chemical processes to improve the production of them. I believe this can applied to more biological processes like studying photosynthesis or cellular respiration.

Kinetics are part of everyday life in the sense that every chemical reaction occurs at a certain rate, including the biological processes in our bodies, animals, and plants. The reactions occurring in the atmosphere is another example, as Professor Lavelle gave examples of nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide reacting to form nitric oxide and carbon dioxide, which are important in studying greenhouse gases. Pharmaceuticals would be yet another example, as kinetics would determine how fast a drug acts in a body system.
