Do ALL catalysts increase A?
All catalysts decrease the Activation energy. But, do ALL catalysts increase the pre-exponential factor (A) as well? In lecture, Dr. Lavelle gave the example of an enzyme binding to an active site as an example of a biological catalyst increasing A. I wasn't sure if it only applied to enzymes.

Only the enzymes do, because they have the sites that bind to the reactants to move them around. Normal catalysts like NO from the ozone example can't really do that.

Depends on the specific reaction. But what catalyst does is provide a more stable transition state. This means the slow step is likely to also have less activation energy than if without catalyst. So I guess, the catalyst doesn't alter A, because the reaction of concern would be different between with and without catalyst.

I think the only thing that ALL catalysts do is lower the activation energy by presenting a new pathway. That pathway could be a variety of things, such as increasing A.
