Midterm 2 Report
I'm happy to say that my hard work payed off and I redeemed myself on the second midterm. Some studying methods I used this time around were:
1. Complete the homework problems as we are learning them in lecture (that way you make sure you get your understanding down and avoid having to basically re-teach your self the material for the exam)
2. Go to the extra help sessions! These helped me a ton and I'm really glad Dr. Lavelle has set up such an extensive student support system.
3. Go to office hours for even the "dumbest" questions. Don't feel embarrassed if you have a question on something you think everyone else but you knows. Chances are there are others just like you and your TAs are there to help you not judge you!
4. Do all the practice problems a week ahead of the exams. That way you can identify what types of problems you have questions on and go to office hours for specific clarification. And since some of the problems are used on the exams making sure you fully understand each and every problem is a must, it definitely came in handy for me.
5. Don't forget to take care of yourself! If you're like me self-care is usually the last thing on your mind when studying for an exam. But if you're not in tip top shape your physical wellbeing can affect your academic performance. So make sure to eat well, sleep well, and take deep breaths to keep yourself calm.

Re: Midterm 2 Report
Yay! I'm happy for you and that your hard work paid off. I think I will take your suggestion to do the achieve problems as we go, since I did not do that last time and I felt like I was cramming them a few days before the exam. I think spacing them out would have made it easier to also give myself time to go to office hours to clarify confusing topics, which I made the mistake of not doing. What you said about not being afraid to ask the dumbest questions is also so important, because I feel like this is very common at UCLA to be afraid of sounding like you don't know what you're doing, but most of the time other people will have the same question as you. Great advice!

I'm glad the midterm went well for you! A study method that I found particularly helpful for me was reviewing Dr. Lavelle's unit outlines with a peer. My roomate (who is also in chem14a) and I talked through each point on the outline and it really helped in terms of filling small gaps in knowledge and clearing up last minute questions.
