Curve

Postby Meghan Krushena 2E » Sun Dec 06, 2020 10:59 pm

Is there a curve for this class? I remember in the 7 series there was usually some type of curve but I wasn't sure if there is a curve for this class?

I do not think there is a curve for this class, I don't recall any mention of it in the syllabus.

There isn't a curve but I heard he adjusts grades at the end of the quarter based on the class average.

I haven't heard anything official in terms of a curve, so I wouldn't be surprised if our raw scores made up our official grades. Based on past years, though, there might be a small curve with a few points, but considering the class averages for this year I'm not really sure.

There is not a curve in the class but professor does adjust grades at the end.

Seeing that there is a chance of an adjustment gives me hope, but no curve has been mentioned by Dr. Lavelle.

I don't think that there is a curve for this class since it is a point system that determines our grades

I don't think he has mentioned anything about curving exams or the class.

I don't think there is something like a curve in this class but we never know due to it being a multiple choice final and what I can assume is Dr. Lavelle's first final of this sort.

The average of this class still falls within c+/b- range so probably no curve will be applied.

there is no official curve but as long as you get 50% of the required points , you pass with a C- and he just emailed everyone that he will be adding 10 additional points to everyone's grades, capped at 100%

There is no curve, but he did say that he is adding 10 points to the final grade. That should help!

I don't think there's a curve because of how the professor adds points to tests which should help regardless.

It seems like the class average is pretty high so there probably won't be a curve, but the professor did say in an email that he will be giving everyone an additional 10 points on the final (capped at 180), and he mentioned in a post on Chem Community to expect more good news by the end of the week.

There is definitely no curve in terms of a 'bell curve', which I am very grateful for. As the other commenters have said, though, he did kind of 'curve' our final by adding points.

Someone mentioned above that you need at least 50% to get a C- in the class, and I know it says that on the syllabus, but does this mean that everyone who gets a grade above a 50% will definitely pass the class with a C-? Or does it just mean that students who score less than 50% will definitely not pass the class?

Yea, I keep hearing TAs say that there hasn't been any talks about a curve--which is kinda tragic.

Unfortunately, there will not be a curve in this class, but Professor Lavelle did add +10 points to each of our finals!!

There is no curve, but an extra 10 points will be added on to each student’s exam. Additionally, all grades higher than 50% are considered a C-

No curve, however if you finish with at least a 50%, he will give you a C- in the course.
