Chemistry News

Postby Muj_Rahman_3B » Fri Jan 13, 2017 10:39 pm

I wasn't able to find a place to post interesting articles or news, so I thought why not make a place for them. I'll start it off.

I'm a fan of IFL Science, and the most recent article in their Chemistry section just to happens to be related to thermochemistry. Have a look; it's pretty neat:

This isn't about thermochemistry but science has made becoming spider man pretty possible ;)

Thanks for the correction. :) I guess I meant related to heat/temperature.

And yes, one step closer to a real Spiderman is always nice.

Here's another article!

Chemists have made the tightest knot! It's a short, fun read. It's pretty "tight."

If you've tasted durian, whether you like it or not, you may agree that it has an interesting taste and smell. Well chemists took to labs to determine what is responsible for them. Here's the article:

Helium is thought to be not very reactive, but chemists have figured out a way to form a compound between Helium and Sodium. Have a read:

Here's an article about electrogenic species, which are a type of bacteria that produce electricity to process what they eat.

Researchers have been using two different types of brain scanners on babies to check, as the title says, their "brain chemistry." Here's it is.

Researchers have been looking at how elements like arsenic and thorium react in an attempt to find an efficient way to "fish out" nuclear waste. Here's the article:

Researchers have devised a biochemically formulated patch of dissolvable microneedles for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Pain-free skin patch responds to sugar levels for management of type 2 diabetes. Really interesting article, connecting chemistry to the human body.

Here's an interesting article about the chemistry that is supposed to allow plastics to be recycled an infinite amount of times! Perhaps this is a step in reducing the plastic waste that plagues our environment.

I think this article is very relevant because it discusses a possible solution that can significantly help patients in need of kidney transplants.

This is amazing!!!!!!! These are wonderful accomplishments. I hope in the future more women continue to excel and win these awards in chemistry and other subjects.

New Chemistry Helping make Plastic Safer!

Postby 505095972 » Thu Nov 01, 2018 3:43 pm

A professor at UCSC was able to make a plastic that doesn't leach chemicals into its surroundings (like PVC does)! This can have massive environmental effects if companies will start using her new nonmigratory plasticizers.

Even though I guess becoming a Spiderman also requires a strong body that can endure such great acceleration.

There will never be a studyguide, but at least Lavelle has many resources we can use like Chem community!

This article discusses a new battery concept based on fluoride ions that could potentially expand lifespan so we would only have to charge our phones twice a month!!

There's a practice final posted somewhere in the chemistry community created by one of the UAs. They said it would closely resemble Lavelle's exam.
