Hi Dr. Lavelle said we only need to know everything up to today, but does that include electron configuration, which he only lightly touches on today?

My TA said the topics for next week's quiz include photoelectric effect, De Broglie wavelength, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, atomic spectra, and quantum numbers, so I don't think the quiz will cover atomic orbitals (although it doesn't hurt to memorize the l-values associated with each orbital). Hope this helps!

Electron configuration plays a part in quantum numbers so it would probably be better to know the electron configurations for the test. Even if it isn't on the test, it wouldn't hurt to look over it a little.

It might also be useful to look at the lecture 2 outline on his website. It has a list of homework questions as well as stuff you need to know/ should be able to do by the next test!

Does anyone know which chapters in the textbook this test covers?

On the syllabus, it states that the quantum world covers chapter 1 & 2 in the sixth edition, and Focus 1 (omit 1C and 1D.1) in the seventh edition. I think that this test covers the aforementioned chapters with respect to the following topics - photoelectric effect, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, De Broglie wavelength, atomic spectra, and quantum numbers.
