readings

Postby RBergtraun_3A » Thu Oct 10, 2019 2:49 pm

Is it just me or is hard to figure out what readings we're supposed to be doing?

I don't think there's any readings that you are required to do. You can read the textbook that correspond to the lectures in class if you want to.

Have you checked out the outlines on the Chem 14A website? I find those pretty helpful for determining which sections of the book to read depending on the unit. You could also ask Dr. Lavelle or your TA for suggestions on what to read. Hope this helps!

On the syllabus, it says which homework problems we can pick from. What I do is read the sections the homework problems are in. That way you're reading the information that is imperative to do the homework and therefore do well on the tests.

I would read the sections that the homework problems are from. I think sections are also listed on the syllabus and the outlines. For studying, I recommend doing the homework problems and Youtube videos for extra practice!

Professor Lavelle seems to expect us to read the sections corresponding to the current homework of the week. I feel like if you understand all of the homework problems though, you should be fine. Just tailor your studying to your weaknesses and focus on what you feel you don't understand.

like the others said, i don't think it is necessary to read through the entire textbook (unless you want to). If you're just trying to study for the final, you should be good by reading just the sections corresponding to the homework and are mentioned in the outline.

The readings are there to get a better understanding of what the professor lectures in class. If there are things you don't get in class, look to the textbook to get a better idea.

The readings can be extensive so try doing the homework problems and reading topics that you're still confused on.

I find some of the readings to be too long-winded or confusing for me to figure out what I actually need to know and understand it. Personally, watching Youtube videos on the same topic and taking notes along with it is very helpful!

Reading the textbook is helpful in clearing up some concepts you may not understand.

there aren't any specific readings, but the outline Lavelle provides allows us to know which part of the book we should be looking at
