Hi,
Does anyone know if it is better to take Chem 14B and Chem 14BL together or Chem14C and Chem14BL together? Or does it not really matter?

I don't know personally, but if the CHEM14 series is a part of your major requirements, it may make sense for you to ask to meet with your departmental advisor for a half-hour, as they should have a good sense of what works better for students and what doesn't. Just my $.02

You don't have to take 14B and 14BL together! I know plenty of people who are taking them different quarters apart. If you're deciding between either 14B/14BL or 14C/14BL I would say 14B/14BL since they're similar topics that would correspond with each other better than two different aspects of chemistry

I am also not sure which is best to take together. However, I have met people that say they've taken chem14b and chem 14bl together or they have just taken chem14bl by itself.

I have always been advised by both peers and my department counselor not to take B and BL at the same time. BL is known for being pretty difficult and from what I understand, it depends on concepts which are taught in B, which can be a little tricky if you're figuring them out at the same time that you're applying them in BL. It is definitely possible to take them at the same time, but unless you have some sort of special circumstance I would avoid it.

I've heard that it's possible to take both at once and do well, but it can be helpful to take 14B first. 14B lays the groundwork for 14BL.

honestly, it's just preference, but I would personally take the lab with the class just bc every topic covered will stay fresh in your mind as you do the lab for that specific topic.

From what I've heard, taking both courses at the same time is doable, but Chem 14BL will take a lot of time and work. So make sure that you balance your workload based on the classes you are taking next quarter.

Also, if you have a strong chemistry background then taking both Chem 14B and Chem 14BL may be a good choice since the material can overlap.

Most upper class men have told me that it is best to do Chem 14BL after taking Chem 14B. If I were you, I would wait until after 14B to take the lab just to stay on the cautionary side.
