Any tips on how to catch up in this class?

Quarter system goes by so fast and I'm still traumatized from the midterm. I've fallen behind and am lost on the current material. Would the best way to review be to read the textbook for the current topics? Thanks for any help

Honestly, whenever I read the textbook I get more confused! So I'd honestly just recommend working out every assigned homework problem in the Outlines on Lavelle's website. Also, for each problem it's important to understand how to solve those problems, why certain equations are used, and the general concepts (most of the time all of these can be found in the solution manual or Organic Chem Tutor on Youtube lol). I was also a bit traumatized by the midterm, so I hope it gets better for the both of us :)

hw problems are the best way tbh, and if those confuse you then you can take your questions to a TA

In addition, a great way to see if you fully understand the material is to go to Lavelle's office hours even if you don't have a question. Lavelle has his office hours where it's like a group discussion, so sometimes even sitting there and hearing other students ask questions will improve your learning. They are every Wednesday and Friday from 3 pm to 4 pm (except next week due to the Thanksgiving break).

I recommend watching youtube videos on topics we've covered after the midterm to review, then doing the hw problems assigned for each outline. If you're still confused, going to step-up sessions and office hours are also super helpful. The quarter system does go by really quickly, but you got this! Best of luck studying :)

Going to step-up sessions are definitely helpful! In addition to practicing worksheet problems from those sessions and hw problems, watching Khan Academy or Organic Chemistry Tutor videos are also super helpful if you need to learn from scratch.

The Covel workshops really help since the UA's go over the material from the lecture and answer questions. Some post their worksheets on chem community so you practice the past material too.

Same! I'm a more 1 on 1 learner so I reached out to some former students for help (my nsa mentor) and they helped me work through problems I had trouble with. Then if i had extra questions I would go to my TA for help.

The step-up sessions are helpful as well as reading the textbook and doing the assigned hw problems!

Professor Lavelle has posted some outlines/learning outcomes on his class website. Read through them and find some videos online to catch up. Those videos online are good learning materials because they are more focused and test problem oriented. Good luck.

Try finding previous tests from the test bank and study those. You could also watch videos which are helpful and do more than the assigned homework questions for practice.

Wow, thanks all, I'm kind of relieved there are a few others who understand my struggle. And I appreciate all of the suggestions!

I'd recommend studying with others, attending the UA workshops, and watching YouTube videos that cover the general ideas on the topics we are studying. It is pretty easy to get lost in the class but reserving time to review past material is essential for catching up in addition to making use of these resources

Youtube videos are super helpful and so are the step-up sessions! The UA's are really good at explaining concepts and they usually go through practice problems as well.

I would say doing the homework problems from the outlines, as well as going over testing material, attending plf/step-up sessions. I also love watching youtube videos because they guide you through the material.
