Cyano vs. Cyanido

Postby Angela Prince 1J » Tue Nov 26, 2019 5:48 pm

What is the difference between cyano and cyanido when naming coordination complexes?

I'm pretty sure you always say cyano.

There is not a difference, they represent the same thing. They are just two different naming conventions (the standard vs. the new IUPAC naming convention) that refer to the same thing. I believe you can use either and they will both be right. I like to use cyano because I think it's a little easier to remember. :)

I think it's just the "old" way vs the "new" way idk. It's correct to use both but it's good to be consistent with it.
